The value of being in the know
The proper care and feeding of evangelists includes inside information.
That's what John Kerry did today. His email to campaign supporters began, "In just a few minutes, I will announce that Senator John Edwards will join me as my running-mate on the Democratic ticket as a candidate for vice president of the United States."
Even though it was, conceivably, minutes' notice, his campaign supporters who are email-addicted heard it directly from the candidate rather than through the media.
A small but effective touch for inciting word of mouse.
