Verizon's smart move
Bravo to Verizon for not participating in a forthcoming public directory of cellphone numbers.
Verizon says exposing its 40 million customers to that potential nest of telemarketers and other privacy-killers is not worth it. It will be the only major carrier that will not give up numbers to the directory.
"Your wireless number,'' says Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney, "is as private as it gets."
Although the celluar industry says the directory will be opt-in, it opposes legislation to ensure it stays that way. Not exactly a trustworthy position but then again, most telecom carriers are founding members of customer hell.
Verizon's position is a glimmer of hope for long-suffering cellphone customers. Makes me glad to be a Verizon customer.

One good move for Verizon...too bad they've taken every OTHER effort to screw their customers. Crippling their phones so you have to use PIX place, removing Bluetooth functionality from their new v710, royally ripping the customer off by making them use GetItNow...who cares if my number's public or private...I'm paying out the nose for Verizon's crummy services and am too broke to care.
Verizon, on their own dis-connected my DSL service for the third time in a year, and when I called for customer service, it again was the worstcustomer service I ever encountered.
I was told per their policy and eventhough it was their mistake
the DSL could take to up to a week to get reconnected. All along I was dealing with the rudest people on earth as usual. When I said I needed the DSL a lot sooner then that, they said well you will get it when you get it, as it has to go through the right channels.
Verizon's Customer Service has always been as bad as bad can get, every time we have called.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR -FORGET THE PHONE, FIOS, AND/ OR DSL WITH VERIZON AND GO SOMEHWERE WHERE YOU CAN GET CUSTOMER SERVICE AS A
PAYING CONSUMER SHOULD.....
