A company to watch

Z-Coil is a word-of-mouth phenomenon.

The Albuquerque, N.M. shoe company, which doesn't advertise, saw its fiscal year-end fiscal revenues leap from $6.4 million to $10.8 million, thanks to an evangelistic universe of customers and dealers.

Z-Coil is a dynamic, family-run company worth watching.

For a minute I thought the product was called Z-COLI, a play off of a serious virus, and thought this was a sick joke, but now I see, going to the site that there is, in fact, a COIL not a COLI in the shoe. Very interesting word of mouth phenomenon.

I've been reading about AdBusters big anti-Nike campaign. They are trying like the Dickens to push some boring (one color only) Chuck Taylor knockoff as the new shoe du jour just to show Nike that it can be done. Seriously--the head of AdBusters has a personal vendetta against Phil Knight for making kids feel uncool for NOT having the latest and greatest Nikes.

Seeing campaigns like the Z-Coil warms my heart. They show an alternative way to making a statement--simply have a good product and the word of mouth will follow.
