iPodding Killed the Drive Time Radio Star
I captured this funny parody of "Video Killed the Radio Star" this weekend on an IRC chat during the podcasting session of BloggerCon3. (What's podcasting? This NY Times article has the scoop. Free subscription required.)
If you were in high school in the early '80s like me, you'll recognize the parody of "The Buggles' great hit."
[17:15] <NZheretic> Ipodding Killed The Drive Time Radio Star
[17:15] <NZheretic> "I heard you on the wireless back in Ninety Two
[17:15] <NZheretic> Driving to work intent at tuning in on you.
[17:15] <NZheretic> If I was jammed it didn't stop you coming through.
[17:15] <NZheretic> "Oh-a oh
[17:15] <NZheretic> They took the credit for your shock jock comedy.
[17:15] <NZheretic> Recorded on Ipods and new technology,
[17:15] <NZheretic> and now I understand the problems you can see.
[17:15] <NZheretic> "Oh-a oh
[17:15] <NZheretic> I met your children
[17:15] <NZheretic> Oh-a oh
[17:15] <NZheretic> What did you tell them?
[17:15] <NZheretic> Ipodding killed the drive time star.
[17:15] <NZheretic> Ipodding killed the drive time star.
[17:16] <NZheretic> "Downloads came and broke your heart.
[17:16] <NZheretic> Oh-a-a-a oh.
[17:16] <NZheretic> And now we meet in an household studio.
[17:16] <NZheretic> We hear the playback and it seems so long ago.
[17:16] <NZheretic> But we all agree Clear Channel has to go.
[17:16] <NZheretic> "Oh-a oh.
[17:16] <NZheretic> You were the last ones.
[17:16] <NZheretic> Oh-a oh.
[17:16] <NZheretic> We are the next ones.
[17:16] <NZheretic> Ipodding killed the drive time star.
[17:16] <NZheretic> Ipodding killed the drive time star.
[17:17] <NZheretic> On my hip and in my car, we can rewind if we've gone to far.
[17:17] <NZheretic> "Oh-a-aho oh,
[17:17] <NZheretic> Oh-a-aho oh
[17:17] <NZheretic> Ipodding killed the drive time star.
[17:17] <NZheretic> Ipodding killed the drive time star.
[17:17] <NZheretic> On my hip and in my car, we can rewind if we've gone to far.
[17:17] <NZheretic> Downloads came and broke your heart, put the blame on Adam Curry.

Buggles (Trevor Horn) will be performing in London at a concert to mark his music career - more details at trevorhorn.com. I wonder what it would take to have him perform this version...!
Trevor is one of the greatest pop music producers of the last 20 years. I'm a devoted member of the Trevor Horn Worship Hall.
Way too funny!
Between my iPod and XM, I've not listened to normal radio in months.
