A nightclub in London is letting its customers pick dancefloor songs in real time via the club's playlist on an iPod.

Called MP3Jing, CNN says:

The format of the evening works in a ballot type system. Those who want to have a go [as DJ], take a ticket with a number on it. When it is their turn to take control of the music, their number is projected on the wall.

Once in control, they share a set with another MP3 owner, alternating one of their songs with the other person. After three songs, they step down.

The concept is spreading to clubs in New York, Washington, D.C., Hong Kong and Tokyo, too. After having my done my share of dancing over the years, it's quite easy to say: The dancefloor is usually smarter than the DJ.

Yeah, no kidding... I got so sick of hearing "Smack my bitch up" that I stopped going to dance clubs for a long time.

As a DJ in washington d.c. that is familiar with most of the good clubs, i can say that this concept has not "spread" anywhere. fake hype

every person has their own tastes, but a dj has to play something that an entire crowd can dance too.
