Homemade advertising for Apple

Save yourself $372,000 (the average cost of making a TV ad these days) and have your customer evangelists create your ads instead.

Check out this awesome iPod ad that an Apple customer created.

[Thanks to Steve Rubel and Gary Stein for the heads-up.]

UPDATE: Wired magazine's Leander Kahney wrote a nice feature story about George Masters' homemade iPod ad and how it illustrates customer evangelism principles. Sorry we missed connections last week Leander :(

ANOTHER UPDATE: NPR's Marketplace did a quick mention of George's homemade ad today (Dec. 14). The buzz keeps building for George, and it's largely being fueled by blogs.

YET ANOTHER UPDATE:  Set your TiVo 'cause Steve Rubel of Micro Persuasion is going to be on CNBC tonight (12/15, 6:40 EST) to talk about the ad.

This is a spec spot to pimp the guy's motion graphic skills. He's not actually trying to replace TBWA Chiat/Day. Or even offer up his spot to Apple like Vaughn Whelan & Partners did recently with their poorly rendered spec spot for Molson.

This spot is very well done. I hope he gets some work for all his efforts.
