What everyone's talking about in Chicago

Dsc02329smThis was the scene outside my door in Chicago a few minutes ago. It's been snowing for more than a day, and it's still snowing.

If you were flying just about anywhere in the United States Wednesday, chances are your flight was delayed or cancelled. About 900 O'Hare flights and 128 Midway flights were canceled yesterday. Today, at least 300 have been canceled. Hundreds of people had to sleep overnight in O'Hare,  missing meetings, soccer games, ceremonies, you name it.

Nothing wreaks havoc on the business of commercial air travel (and business and in general) quite like a snowstorm in Chicago, the world's second-busiest airport.

Is there a solution to the "Chicago effect" on nationwide business travel?

As much as I love Chicago, the only solution I've found is to avoid ORD in the winter. I was thankful to be connecting through Cincinnati that day.
