Thank goodness for small favors...
The United States government is banning billboards in space.
But what's to stop some rocket-capable nation from launching a low-orbit billboard for the entire world to see?
Other blogs that reference Thank goodness for small favors...:
I'm not so sure. The Big M arches could give a certain angelic resonance to the heavens.
Space: the final frontier of advertising overkill.

Our tax dollars at work...
I recall reading about a company who was planning on using the moon as a billboard. (Virgin?)
Assuming the company to do this were Canadian or European, or essentially non-American, how do they think the FAA could enforce this? The US Government can't get international unilateral agreement on the downloading of free music off the internet or same-sex marriage. What makes them think this will (pardon the pun) fly?
I can see it now, the George Bush anti-billboard missile initiative.
Uh..there shold probably be a little clause at the end of that news/statement from the US Govt. - "banning billboards in space,...for now."
...argh.
Any ban is better than no ban lest we have unscrupulous marketers of the world launching billboards into orbit to "extend their global brand." Heh!
