The viral marketing contagion

USA TODAY reports that viral marketing is on the rise.

Still, there's little evidence that most viral campaigns increase sales. But they do win agencies awards.

I guess some things still remain important.

Maybe it has not been done right yet. I never thought much of the normal wom marketing, but I did lay awake at night and wonder how to get my own employees creating a bit of buzz about us.

I created buzzoodle to solve that and it has. http://www.buzzoodle.com It has spread to 15 counties and almost every state in the first 30 days after release with no marketing. I'd love to hear your comments.

Put that in the same file as the Oprah G6 giveaway. A whole lot of attention, but less than stellar results.

I agree with Ron (not necessarily on the Buzzoodle concept, though). I don't think they're have been many successful examples of tying viral marketing to successful word-of-mouth and translating it into sales. Well, except with the Halo 2 launch.

Ohh so sad but true. It seems that most viral campaigns are the result of creatively driven ad agencies wanting to be clever, rather than be effective.

Just look at the performance of nearly naked Paris Hilton's car washing escapades for .... I think it was some kinda burger wasnt it.
