The fall of the traditional wedding album?

Hishers_1 Here's an indicator of when a product crosses the rubicon of word-of-mouth phenomenon to mass-market adoption: the iPod as an accessory in the $80 billion wedding industry.

Entrepreneurial-minded wedding photographers John Andrews and Eric Hegwer have added "iPod Proofs" to their services, featuring custom-engraved his-and-hers video iPods with music, photos and slideshows of your wedding, including all photos they make. (Hence, proofs. A better name, I think, would be iPod Keepsakes.)

Part of the iPod's remarkable rise as cultural icon is that it has been a catalyst in businesses that Apple probably never imagined to identify in the product's original marketing plan.

It's this type of unexpected, springboard innovation that makes business so much fun.

Update: Jared Christensen: "By the power of Jobs vested in me, I pronounce you man and wife. You may now exchange iPods."
