Thanks, Devyn Caldwell
Chalk up another victory for the power of citizen bloggers.
The city of Chicago removed security cameras it had rather blithely perched atop Jaume Plensa's wondrous glass-block video fountains a few weeks ago in the city's Millinneum Park. (That's one of the fountains in the background picture on the home page of this blog.)
It started with blogger and photographer Devyn Caldwell. He tipped off the Chicago Tribune after first writing about the cameras on his blog. "Ten minutes later, I had James Janega, a reporter from the Trib, calling me at work for a phone interview," Devyn writes.
The Trib quickly wrote about the issue and momentum took over. "We looked around for it (criticism) and we found it, found the blogs," a park spokeswoman told the paper.
At least in Chicago, it seems the voice of the citizen blogger is heard. Now if we can get just get them to stop reading Orwell.
