Memo to HBO

If you're going to do guerilla marketing like this -- posting homemade-looking fliers (above) for a TV show in Chicago's Old Town district -- you might want to ensure there's a payoff for people who follow your breadcrumb trail (below).

I looked at the page source for this and found something curious. In the code for the Check Back Soon image, the "longdesc" is this URL:

http://www.hbo.com/events/johnfromcincinnati/index.html

Not only do you find out when the premiere will be aired there, but you can also sign up for the show's newsletter and watch a preview. In fact, this is the same page for the show that you'd find if you went to HBO.com.

Guess someone screwed up...

Good detective work, Andy!

From the WHOIS lookup, it looks like the marketing and promotion company Deep Focus is responsible for this campaign. I think someone needs to set up a redirect ASAP.

Is it just me or does this kind of thing happen FAR too often? It seems like every one of these types of things I look at as soon as I hear about them have some "coming soon" message. Sorta kills the mood, eh?
